Bariatric and Metabolic resources for a healthier life

Learn about the bariatric surgery process including finding a surgeon

Things to remember before bariatric surgery

Be sure to prepare your home, and yourself, for a trouble-free experience.

Prepare your home

Make a comfortable area in your house for when you get back from the hospital. Stock up on ice chips, popsicles, clear broth, skim milk, and juice. It’s important to stay hydrated before and after your surgery. Also, be sure to refill any needed prescriptions before you get back from the hospital.

Pack a bag

Take all the necessary items you’ll need for a two-day stay at the hospital like prescriptions, loose-fitting pajamas, toiletries, and any important insurance papers.

Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. Wear loose-fitting clothing that doesn’t bind at the waist on the day of your surgery.

Enlist friends or family members

Having trusted people around to help you will make your surgery go smoother. Get someone to drive you to and from the hospital, and have someone help you get settled in at home after your surgery. Bring a small pillow for the car ride back home to help cushion your stomach.

Healing from surgery of any kind will take time, so take it easy when adjusting to your new body.
